Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack Gone Wild?

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack recently made some controversial statements to the National Restaurant Association regarding what Americans currently eat and what they should be eating.

This comes of no surprise when considering all the recent media attention to the current administration’s push for what they consider healthier foods and a healthier lifestyle. Now, you might be asking why a health blogger would be frustrated over a push for healthier foods… That will be explained below, but first, get an idea of what Vilsack was speaking about at the conference through Youtube:

Why people are frustrated with Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack:

There are many reasons a health blogger and many others are frustrated about this situation. First of all, even though I appreciate the importance of health, and actually because of it, I understand that healthy choices and a healthy lifestyle will only be maintained when the respective individuals choose to do it themselves. Forced health does not work, and there’s plenty of evidence of it throughout history.

Second of all, who’s to say that the current recommendations for what healthy food is are correct? I and many other independent bloggers do not believe the current recommendations are healthy, and that’s based off many of the same research studies done by scholarly universities and organizations.

And even if we did, who’s to say that what is healthy for one person is health for another? The fact is that there are so many variables when it comes to a person’s health. And generalizing a bunch of health rules based off of conflict of interest company studies is not logical nor lawful. And that’s my next problem.

Under the Constitution, the Federal Government has no right to dictate what the citizens choose to eat or what foods they choose to purpose, nor do they have the ability to influence the public’s fitness level or level of health in lifestyle.

The 9th and 10th Amendments clearly state this in their own words, describing that rights not given to the Government are inherently owned by the people, and that the Government has no right to disparage or infringe upon the rights of its citizens.

Lastly, Tom Vilsack doesn’t exactly have the greatest past. Many people have brought forth problems with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and Monsanto. His relationship is clearly established and it seems that he has passed many controversial laws granting Monsanto access to the entire food supply via genetic modification. Much of this information surrounding this issue can be found HERE and HERE.

One small example of the blatantly shady relationship between Vilsack and Monsanto is the quick passing of Genetically modified Alfa Alfa and others into the food supply (made by Monsatno). Also included in the links above are the many rewards and honors Vilsack has received from the industry.

For this reason, and more, if you do the research, it is justified to question Vilsack’s statements of influencing what Americans eat. I’m afraid that Vilsack may be more-so trying to control what Americans eat rather than influence and promote a healthy lifestyle. All of this occurs as Senior Advisors of the FDA are being hired directly from the high ranks of Monsanto and organic farms and raw milk stores are being raided.

What about this is American? What about this is Constitutional? What about this is healthy?

I leave you to form your own opinion and share the story if you think it’s important. I myself will share it, because I think Vilsack is a great threat to civil liberties, the Constitution, the law, and the health of Americans.

P.S. It’s hard to imagine that issues like this are becoming a reality, and with the volatility of the food supply, partly because of certain individuals and companies mentioned,  I believe it’s intelligent and responsible to have an emergency food storage. If you feel the same way, I’d ask you to take a look into 37 Foods that Sell out in a Crisis, a detailed report on preparing an emergency storage.
