FDA Draft Guidance for Industry, Banning supplements?

As always, I attempt to search out any health freedom related issues and always report them as without our freedoms, we have no basis for pursing the improvement of our health and our lives.

Today, I want to talk about something that is getting little to no media attention, the FDA Draft Guidance for Industry. I’d also like to point out that Dr. Mercola of www.mercola.com has pioneered the research and announcement of this FDA mandate and I would like to thank him for that.

Here is the original article as produced on mercola.com: FDA Set to Ban Supplements?

And here is the Mercola video that is sparking the rise in attention around this issue: Mercola Draft Guidance video

What does this proposed mandate actually do?

This mandate is putting excessive regulation on businesses that are already strained with an overload of Government regulation and stress because of a slowing economy and a slow recovery from the previous and current “recession”. A mandate like the aforementioned tends to act with regulation in claim to be in defense of consumer safety, when in fact, the consumers believe they are intelligent enough to make their own choices and let business run as business does.

By creating a mandate like this, we interfere with business and therefore put a strain on the economy and respective industries. Additionally, we put a strain on individuals by claiming to know what is best for them and slowly making them more and more addicted to the nanny state attitude.

In this particular FDA Draft Guidance for Industry mandate, “Manufacturers of supplements will be forced to conduct expensive safety studies using absurdly high doses, which will force many out of business, effectively eliminating competition to high priced Pharmaceuticals” (Quote origin).

This specific mandate model comes from the idea that foods and supplements can be considered food additives, and they are being treated as such to extend the jurisdiction of the FDA over controlling the sale and creation of such supplements.

This effectively gives the FDA full control over supplements and vital nutrients that some people depend on in their daily lives. It is an intrusion that most definitely violates the Constitution of the United States, and it is an intrusion that resembles that of a Fascist state, and not the Capitalistic free and constitutional society we believe in and believe rightfully operates within the United States.

Additionally, this mandate gives much power over the people to the Pharmaceutical companies, who will be of large benefit with this bill.

Why would the FDA do such a thing?

If this bill does receive the mass attention it deserves, the FDA will not only be at the scrutiny of consumers, but also so will the Pharmaceutical companies, who seem to be receiving the largest reward in this situation. As with many similar bills, it is interesting to note the support that is received from these companies. It would not be odd to look at the supporters for the bill and notice a list of well-recognized Pharma companies.

In reality, the FDA benefits by gaining more control over the consumer and regulation over a basic necessity and right by the Constitution. Additionally, the FDA receives the support of Big Pharma companies because in the end, they will be the only ones able to afford the high cost of high dose expensive studies the FDA seeks to require.

Because of this supposed sinister relationship, it seems that the FDA could act unfair in the acceptance of certain supplements, possibly favoring Pharma company supplements over independently created and researched supplements that the consumers choose.

What should you do?

This FDA Draft Guidance for Industry issue is not uncommon, but the solution is common and powerful.

The first thing you should do is your own research. Use the internet to research opinions of this bill from both sides, including any releases the FDA may have over this bill. Third party websites can also offer a unique and informative viewpoint in issues like this.

Once researched and informed, make a decision on where you stand. And once your stance is known, you can do things like contact your local congressmen and representatives, use your right to freedom of speech and speak and write about it, while also making use of social media tools to discuss with a larger population.

I can tell you that my personal belief is issues like this will only keep arising and increasing in occurrence as long as the people sit back and cheer on this type of corruption. Without a knowledgeable and energized population, certain individuals can run wild and corrupt, especially in positions of power. This is why I personally believe it is the duty of every health-conscious individual to also be freedom-conscious, and become aware of the principles of liberty and understand how to advocate for that liberty.

It is also why I endorse the research of all candidates bill votes and bill introductions in congress, and for voting for Congressmen and Presidential candidates who have a consistent and constitutional based position.

As always, do the research, form your own opinion, and take action in strategic ways that result in good.
